House Tour of Dear’s Rest B & B

Honeymoon Sleeping Loft

This bedroom is so romantic and cozy.  The walls are painted by local artist Janice   Hawkins, with roses and nesting doves.  A family quilt is on display also, with names of Linda’s father and his cousins.  The doors were made by Amish with special “locks”.  See and appreciate!

Post & Beam construction is a unique Amish skill.  The over 8-inch thick roof is held up with beams that are not nailed ..but pegged together.  The fireplace is framed with a collection of Allan’s toys, which are antique now...to his consternation.  Many romantic plans are formulated in this room where you can enjoy a wood-burning fireplace (weather permitting) as well as music by Bose radio, TV via satellite, movies using CD or Videos.  Books, and magazines, and games are available also for your amusement.

View  the seasons from this vantage point.   Watch our many feathered friends (over 35 varieties counted) that come to the feeders.  It is fun to let the hummingbirds rest on your fingers while they find nourishment.  The feeders are also popular with our fat squirrels and at night the raccoons take advantage of any “left-over's”. You will also enjoy a  “no-lunch” breakfast that is served while you watch the morning-mist play in the holler.

Pretend you are visiting “yesteryear” today.  Rustic comfort is what this Bed & Breakfast offers.  Antiques came from South Dakota where the Schilters’ family homesteaded.  You may choose between the Rose Bedroom or “Honeymoon” Sleeping Loft with the ole’fashioned metal springs on the  bed!

The Loft is so cozy under the beamed ceiling, and if it rains the soft music of raindrops will surely make sleeping a wonderful experience. It is roomy, and comfortable for families,  reunions  or slumber parties.  You will find two double beds available. We call it the honeymoon suite, because Allan’s Grandparents’ wedding pictures are displayed there.  Recently added are wedding quilts specially designed by Linda and quilted by Nancy Andrews.
